A Day's Worth of Fun

This morning I went for a road bike ride to the Shelburne Shipyard, which is only about 5 miles from our house. What a beautiful ride. It was hot today, in the 90s, so running was out (I didn't get up early enough to run during the cool morning hours). A nice hilly road bike did the trick.

Before I hopped on the raleigh, though, I took a photo from my backyard. In the photo where we live looks pretty awesome. The landscaping is pretty cool but the location isn't ideal. Our place is perched between a busy highway and a well traveled railway; when the train goes by, only 40 meters away, the house shakes. A bit too urban for this gal, but it will do for now.

(Below: The main highway in our front yard.)

(Below: Photos from my trip to the Shelburne Shipyard.)

After the Shipyard excursion, Dave and I packed a lunch and ventured to Richmond to scope out On The Rise Bakery, a neat bakery that Dave found the first time he came to Burlington. While at the bakery, drinking our iced coffees, we met Eli who was weeding the herb garden out front. We told him we were headed to the Bolton Potholes and asked him if it was a cool swimming hole. Sure, he said, but Huntington Gorge, his front yard, would be even cooler. So off we went to find Huntington Gorge.

(Below: Photos from our afternoon drive to Richmond, only 12 miles from our place).

The Gorge was excellent! We explored the river, swam, and even found a crayfish which I hope to ID once I find my Crayfishes of Missouri book. After our swim we pulled out a couple of sandwiches and apples from my backpack and had a relaxing lunch, just what the doc ordered after such a stressful month of packing, moving, and unpacking.

I think our road beats your road ... the speed limit is 50 and there is NO sidewalk to separate the house and the road ... mind you there is a larger break down lane :-P
Thanks for posting photos and an update ... I do enjoy catching up on what you are doing.

Glad you are getting settled in. Looks like a nice area. Interesting sign listing the people who have drown there?!

Deanna! I just read the info about On The Rise Bakery, what an awesome sounding place! And to think, Dave 'O' is playing there tonight! Woooo Hooooo I can't wait to go there and they even have art nights, poetry nights and other music nights to listen. I didn't know that Shelburne had a winery until i read about it in 'On The Rise Bakery' news. Lookin' good to me!
Hugs!!
